Walking Trails

Cooler fall weather is right around the corner! One of the best ways to enjoy the natural beauty of Central Texas is to see it up close and personal with a hike. Our real estate agents know that our area's natural treasures -along with a diverse economy- are among one of the most influential reasons why buyers pick Central Texas for their new home. Now is the perfect time to plan in order to enjoy everything the area has to offer!

Central Texas is full of well-kept trails that will appeal to hikers of all skill levels. Whether you're looking for a short and easy stroll or a challenging all-day hike, you're sure to find a trail that's perfect for you. Check the weather and local trail conditions before you go, and make sure you're equipped for a great adventure.

Let's look at just a few local trails that you might choose:

  • Pepper Creek Hike & Bike Trail – Temple, TX
Much like the name suggests, Pepper Creek Hike & Bike Trail is a great place for bike riding or hiking. The concrete surface makes this trail easy to walk or ride on and is approximately 1.3 miles. The trail follows Pepper Creek through a lush forest, offering plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife.

  • Waco Riverwalk - Waco, TX
Take in views of the Brazos River when you stroll the Waco Riverwalk. This multi-use trail loops both banks of the river and offers great views along the way. Easily hop on this trail while you're in downtown Waco. Plus, the lighted trail is great to stroll even as daylight hours get shorter during the fall.

  • Cotton Belt Trail – Waco, TX
Cotton Belt Trail is a concrete rail trail following along historic train tracks. Opened in 2013 along an abandoned rail corridor formerly operated by Southwestern Railway, it now connects Harris Creek with Lake Waco. Flat and full of open fields, its major highlight is the bridge over the Bosque River. This makes a great trail to take your furry friends along, our agents love taking their dogs on this easy trail, and their pets love it, especially in fall and spring.

  • Buena Vista Park - Waco, TX
There's a lot you can do at Buena Vista Park. The park is home to a fully stocked fishing pond -thanks to a partnership with the Texas Parks and Wildlife's Neighborhood Fishin' program-, a wetland-themed playground that kids will love visiting, and, let's not forget, a scenic walking trail. Enjoy views of the pond during your walk. Leashed dogs are also welcome on this trail, so bring Fido along, but please remember to pick up after your pets!

  • Friar's Creek Hike and Bike Trail – Temple, TX
Friar's Creek Hike and Bike Trail (#2)  is a short walk, terrific for a little warm-up before you embark on a longer excursion or just a leisurely walk in the southern part of Temple. The trail begins only steps away from the popular Lions Junction Family Water Park. Fields and residential areas characterize much of the trail, with picnic shelters available in some areas. Friar's Creek Hike & Bike #1, located off of 5000 S. 5th St., is a longer trail, sitting at just over 3 miles. Close to - Summit Recreation Center.
