Kayaking is such a fun way to get out on the water and get some exercise in the summer. You can tandem kayak with a friend or paddle off on your own. The Waco area has some really lovely places to paddle on the Bosque and Brazos Rivers. Here are some of the best launch points that our real estate agents recommend checking out.
- Brazos Park East: Martin Luther King Blvd. and Herring Ave., Waco TX, 76704
Brazos Park East has a small boat launch area that is perfect for launching kayaks. The Brazos River is quite wide and calm in this area, making it a good choice for kayakers of all skill levels.
As you paddle through the park, you can admire the disc golf course and maybe even stop for a round yourself when you're done on the water. The GPS coordinates for the boat ramp are (DD) 31.58789°, -97.15342°.
- Bledsoe Miller Community Center Dock: 300 Martin Luther Kind Blvd., Waco TX, 67704
The Bledsoe Miller Community Center Dock is another good place to launch your kayak onto the Brazos River. GPS coordinates for the dock itself are (DD) 31.56275°, -97.12926°. The community center also offers some other great outdoor amenities, like a playground and picnic areas.
If you paddle northwest far enough from Bledsoe Miller, you can reach Cameron Park. Stay to the left where the river forms a fork, and you'll be paddling down the Bosque River.
- Waco Paddle Company: 200 S. University Parks Dr., Waco TX, 76701
If you do not have your own kayak and would like to rent one, you can do so at Waco Paddle Company. This rental company is located in the heart of downtown Waco, on the banks of the Brazos River. You can paddle under the suspension bridge and enjoy a unique view of the city from the water.
Waco Paddle Company offers single and double kayak rentals. You can pay by the hour, half-day, or full-day. If you'd like to try something a bit different, they also rent canoes and paddleboards.
- Pura Vida Paddle: 3332 Franklin Ave., Waco TX, 76710
Pura Vida Paddle is another great kayak rental company on the Brazos River. They also sell kayaks and kayak equipment, so if you fall in love with the hobby after renting a kayak, you can buy your own and go more often.
Pura Vida Paddle also offers some fun classes, like SUP yoga and kayaking lessons. You can see the lesson schedule and sign up on their website.
- Lacy Point Boat Ramp: Classic Dr., Waco, TX 76712
If you would rather kayak on a lake than on a river, then the Lacy Point Boat Ramp is a nice place to launch your kayak. You'll be out on Lake Waco, which can have calmer waters than the local rivers.
This boat launch is on the small side, but that's not an issue for kayakers. There is a bathroom on-site, and the area is popular for fishing, so there are always some people around. The access point is in a little cove, so the water is quiet, and you have to paddle a short distance out into the open lake.
If you enjoy kayaking and being on the water, then you should seriously consider looking at Waco homes for sale. With the Brazos and Bosque Rivers, plus Lake Waco, it's a great place for kayakers to live. Contact us if you are looking for a real estate agent to guide you on your house-hunting journey.
